Finisher of 84km Ultra Marathon

Alck

Left my house at 6pm and reached the place at around 7.45pm. Went to deposit my baggage and special needy bag for ultra runners. After which went to find some of the sgrunners.

The race started off at 8.30pm sharp. Ultra runners started off the same timing as corporate and team relays. I guess it serves as a motivation for us instead of only seeing 310 runners doing 84km.

Went well for the first 20km and so… something which is different is that for the 1st 4km or so, there is no water point; and each water point is placed approx 2km away; which can be quite tiring esp for ultra runners.

crossed the bridge from east coast park; and was given a can of red bull; feel very energized and continue to run. somehow i feels that the distance for 42km is slightly longer; but sadly, my polar footpod ran out of battery at the 25k mark. theres a total of 4 bridges to cross; omg its very demoralizing.

finished the 1st loop approx 5hr; having a mind that i should came in between 5hr-5hr30mins so that i can conserve some energy for another loop. Changed a new attire; running shoe; ate powerbar and a banana; and way im off again.

the management should take into consideration on the water point; the 1st loop without water point for 4km is alright; but 2nd loop without water for 4km is more like enduring. ran pass changi beach and off to string of lights again. oh man; really hate this never-ending route. no one was infront of me and no one was behind me; i take this time to reflect myself on a lot of things; adapt running + walking.

by the time i reached east coast park; the whole place is so quiet and peacefully. not as cold as i think but theres still people bbq-ing. some of the running route is kinda dark. along the way, saw some voluteers fall asleep; some heard footsteps and quickly wake up to direct us. i guess they are doing a great job as they try not to sleep (i guess is pass down by the management). reached bedok reservoir and it started raining. feeling a bit cold and reflect the days i was in fieldcamp during my army days. LOL.

finally reached the end point at a timing of 12:27:32.74 (given by sundown marathon). not sure whether its net timing or chip timing;

overall, i find that i did pretty well. although i do quite a number of walking for the 2nd loops. i guess its natural as one self have its limit.

anyway, now im in a recovery stage and looking forward for singapore passion run next sunday. running route is around east coast again. LOL.

For now, congrats all sundown marathon runners; regards u are running 42k or 84k or representing your company or school to participate such event. Give yourself a pat :D

Hi this is Meng Hong from Hivelocity, the organiser of Sundown Marathon. Congratulations on completing this great challenge. How do you find the route? (Actually hope to joinn this year but organiser, so I guess will have to do it next year)

My team is in charge of the Medal, T-shirt and baggage area, and this is my first time (though my colleague is very experience) and I am very keen to hear comments from runners like you.

Well done and hope to meet you at the start point next year.

Running in the race is something that is proud to mention of. Runners always have one thought in their minds- to survive in the run, with additional pride in it. well…that may be untrue to some runners. But, bear in mind that i am stating to only long distance runners, not to short distance runner. Honestly speaking, I have to exercise regularly every week, so I have to run quite a lot. Everytime I run, it consists of 10km or maybe more, not up to me to decide, but by my seniors. I run with the fear of dying because I have a illness to cover up, not letting anyone knows. Thus, running is not only running to me, but of a risk and a life&death issue to bear in mind.

    Hi,

May i know are we allowed to have our friend to support us with dry apparels, gel etc at the end of the 1st leg?

  • Alck Says:

    hi nicholas. thanks.
there will be a tentage for 84km utlra marathoner for you to change into another set of running attire and replenish your gel etc.
u have to check in your baggage before the race and when u finish your 1st leg, just approach to the 84km tentage to claim your stuff.
remmeber the baggage is different from those normal baggage u check in during race. cheers
