a new personal best…!
Yesterday was my 2nd time participating in Singapore Marathon and i came in with a Personal Best timing of 4:37:50 compared to 4″53″15 which is done in KL. This timing placed me 1759th out of 10549 full marathon participants. In constrast with my own divison, i ranked 229th out of 2849. Please do take note that all timing was based on “gun” time. which means if i would care for ranking, i need to stand much more infront; but there were too many participants and i started infact 6mins after the exact time.
Ok i will be doing a review of this marathon. Compared to last year, this year have a slight change in route. One major change was the last few km. last year, we ran just outside esplanade where you could see the river, but this year they changed to run on road instead, i think is due to the huge number of participants. 2nd was east coast park, in order to have any runners’ jam, they choosen the outside road, the road where all vehicles would drive pass to go east coast park. it was indeed better as we have more space to run.
For the 1st 15km, i did not drink any sip of water as i believe that drinking too much water would make my body weight much heavier (experienced from army half marathon);
on the day before the event, i created my own wristband; thanks to marathon guide http://www.marathonguide.com/fitnesscalcs/PaceBandCreator.cfm
This wristband will serve as a guide of what timing you would want to achieve and it shows the timing for every 5km. I choosen to run a 4:30 timing but failed due to the fact of insufficient training. Anyway the pacing was alright from start to 35km, and i slowed down thereafter. but luckily, i slowed down by 7mins+
anyways, there were some pacers as well. they have paced runners with different timing, such as sub 4, 4:30, 4:45 etc etc. I realized that the timing shown behind their shirt was also the same as mine on the wristband;
So i strongly encourage you to make yourself one if you are going for any marathons. it really motivates you to run the target timing.
Alright, congrats to all whom have completed the race regardless its full, half or 10km, or kids dash. you have make yourself proud and keep the running spirit high!

Congrats!
I did 10K. Was not my personal best time. I did 1 hr and 5 mins. Used to do it below the 1 hr mark. First time at this Singapore Marathon, could not understand why so many of them rush to the front before the start of the gun, then they walk.

hi goodydaze,
thanks for dropping. basically rushing to the start line is to have better ranking. alot of pple wants their net time to be as close as their gun time.
but for me i was way way behind during the start of full marathon, 6 mins after it officially starts off. but as long as we maintain pacing, we will achieve our goals.
no worries that if you got your personal worst, i believe you would come back stronger next year and GO for better timing.
all the best

hey gratz for your PB, but 4:30 pace will be just too fast, unless to going for top 10 position. =)
the run was fun. i will try 84k this time round.

hi XZ…thanks for dropping by. 4:30 pacing was quite ok to me. but i believe i can perform better if i train more.
