KPE Run Review

Alck

Woke up at 6am and get myself prepared for today 10km KPE Run. As i do not know what time is my first bus, i intend to leave my house at 0630, which i suppose is the safest timing.

It was quite a long journey to kovan station. When i reached there, i was like omg, the queue was very long! and someone actually commented the place we are standing is 10mins walk away from the bus interchange. i was like should i give up on this race or should i continue waiting?

I begin to see some movement on the queues which is far better than nike+ human race pack collection. Approx 15mins, i being to see the interchange and the queue keep moving abit by abit. Finally, i get to sit on the bus and it was 0820 already! I guess i will be late for the race.

Its about 100 metres walk from drop off point to start point. And i begin seeing pple running as they already knew the race have actually started. Without further or do, i turn on my footpod and poof, i started my run. And i realize i pressed my watch too early and it was 200m before the start point.

The tunnel experience i would say its once in a lifetime. At about 1km or so, there was a total darkness and it was like woot…sundown marathon! LOL. At about 3km-4km, there was some serious ventilation problem, i’m breathing harder than my usual ones. But there was a part where we manage to get some wind.

The first water point was at 5km+ and i took a sip of water and continue running. Make a u-turn point and i’m trying my hard to continue my pacing even though the tunnel was hot and we are like breathing each other “air”. lol.

At about 7km+, there was a whole group of 5km joggers/walkers. Sometimes i really feel that singaporean have no sense of direction; supposely, the expressway have 4 lanes, 2 for runners, 2 for joggers/walkers. but those 5km joggers/walkers was like taking the whol 4 lanes. and blocking runners like us. I have difficulty cutting them as they walk in groups. I wanted to shout, but i guess its not very nice as there are elderly.

Well, i managed to finish at a timing of 58:31.6 and the distance is 10.51km (run extra) at an average speed of 10.8km/hr.

We are given a goodie bag and a certificate of participation.

The goodie bag contains alot of stuff such as water bottle, 3 packs of maggie mee, 1 drink, 1 bookmark, 1 latern, a fan ( which used in ndp 2007) but they changed to text to I love KPE :) ), a KPE towel etc etc…

overall i would give this race a 7.5/10. Sufficient water point, speedy shuttle bus service to cope with huge number of participants, and event performance. Well done organiser :)
