Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2009 Review
Woke up pretty early today to participate in Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2009. The start point was near changi village but we are required to park our vehicle near expo and take a shuttle bus from there. I guessed i’m the very first batch to take the shuttle bus as the time was 5:45 when i board the bus. Anyways, it took less than 15mins to reach changi village; and there’s a bit of walking distance to the starting point. At first, a few runners and I thought that the baggage deposit will be located near start point; but we were wrong; it was behind one of the hawker center. No choice, we have to walk back but taking it as a warm up. Wanted to feedback to the in charge to deploy one volunteer to guide the later runners that the baggage system was located behind; Once deposit, i walked back to the starting point and saw a few runners looking for the baggage deposit counter; without hesitation, i guided them along and there were shocked that they missed it too!
The race starts on time; and the route was quite challenging with a few up-down slopes but it was alright; I suppose the organizer wants relay a message to us that in life, there’s up and down challenges for us to overcome. Therefore, we should treasure ourselves, and people around us; and giving prisoners a second chance.
I cloaked a timing of 51:26secs with avg speed of 11.3km/hr for 10km. Pretty satisfied with myself as this is a new record for my 10km run.
After the run, there’s carnival going on e.g. sports and games, getting free milo drink, anderson ice creams and of course an exhibition on the life of a prisoners.
Overall, the event was very well organized. There’s not much delay on waiting for baggage, maybe because I was in the front line. For bus transportation, it was very well done; the frequency of the bus was superb fast. although there’s a slight rain, but we do not have to wait long to get into the shelter. i would rate this race 9.5/10
